Abinadi Meza (b. 1976, Chicago) is an
artist currently based in Minneapolis, USA. He is an adjunct faculty
member of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities in interactive
art and sound art.
Meza's work has shown nationally and
internationally. Recent projects include The Burning Question at
Katherine Nash Gallery (MN), karta/terräng in Malmö Sweden,
and Project Emergencia with
Alfredo Jaar.
Abinadi Meza will present The Prisoner, his latest animation with
sound. The footage is appropriated from the 1927 silent film La
Passion de Jeanne
d'Arc by Carl Dreyer and is re-rendered as an animation. The content
revolves around Jeanne's political status as a prisoner and her torture
at the hands of interrogators and prison guards. She is utterly alone
and a subject to the power and authority of her captors. Throughout
the animation she is an individual; her judges express and assume
power as a group.
