Jerzy Kubina

Varsovia Piano Trio

Jerzy Kubina was born in 1956 Zamość, Poland. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, Poland in 1986 from the department of painting and soon after he decided to leave his country and settle in the United States. During this time he has been living in New York and has gone through several phrases of work including “Dust of Life”, “Brooklyn Windows”, and “Dust of Memory”. These works included installations, three dimensional paintings, performance, and painting on silk. Currently he is working on a series of paintings called “Zamość, Zamość” At the moment he is using transparent materials including silk combined with digital photo prints. This technology allows him to attain new visual effects.

Zamość, Zamość  is a series of paintings which I would like to dedicate to the city of my childhood and youth, Zamość. I lived in Zamość’ old town square for 25 years and I had been able to breath its history and observe the transformation of this unusual town. Zamość is an example of greatly preserved architecture from the renaissance period. Founded in the 16th century Zamość is one of the most beautiful cities of Poland and is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. I cherish many wonderful memories and have deep feelings for this city. Nostalgia, love, memories form the space and ambience of the series of paintings presented in this exhibition.”
