Pianist Joanna Trzeciak was born in Krakow,
where she started her musical education at the age of 7. After
studying under the direction of Prof. Zbigniew Drzewiecki, she
went on to obtain her piano diploma at the Warsaw Conservatoire
under Prof. Jan Ekier, while on scholarship from the Chopin Foundation. In
1977 she was selected by the Po lish Ministry of Culture to specialize further
at the Moscow Conservatoire under Prof. Lev Vlasenko. Prof. Wlodzimierz Obidowicz
also contributed to her artistic training. In 1980 she won first prize at the
Festival of Polish pianists in Slupsk, and commenced an international performing
career.
Her first series of concerts in the United States took place
in November 1988, and she has returned to this country on a
regular basis. In addition to concerts, she gives master classes
regularly at the State University of Arizona and occasionally
in other places. Her favorite subject has become the complete
piano works of Szymanowski.
Internationally she has appeared both as soloist and with
orchestra in nearly all the major European cities, and also
in Canada and Lebanon. The many international festivals at which
she has given concerts include the Festival of Flanders, the
Festival of Lubljana, the Osor Festival and the Festival of
Sardinia. In chamber music she has worked with Lola Bobesco,
Anatoli Krastew, Jadwiga Gadulanka and Richard Pieta among others.
In 1999, the “Year of Chopin”, she performed Chopin
works in Belgium, Poland, Italy, Croatia, etc. both as a soloist
and with orchestra.
After recording LPs in Poland, Germany and Belgium, her first
CD appeared in 1990 under the Pavane label with music by Szymanowski.
A new edition followed in 1993 including Rondos by Chopin and
other works. An original CD with works by Johann Nepomuk Hummel
entitled “La bella capriciosa and other pieces” which
appeared in 1997 has drawn special praise from international
music critics.
