| Twenty-five years ago I knew several Polish visual artists
in Los Angeles. Having a lot in common, we were constantly meeting
at cafes, parties, our studios and even on the beach. We were
all young aspiring artists holding the MFA degree. I suggested
that we could form a group and exhibit together under the name
of KRAK, since we were all from the city of Krakow, Poland.
They laughed, saying that the group wouldn’t even survive
the preparation stages for its first exhibition. But that first
exhibition did take place, with four participating artists,
at the “Top ‘O’ Art Gallery” in West
Hollywood, CA. Against all odds, our group of four survived
its first exhibitions and exploded into a group of fifteen exhibiting
artists. We have held numerous exhibitions in California and
Mexico, occasionally inviting Polish artists from various states
and countries to exhibit with us. The pivotal intent of the
painters, graphic artists and sculptors who now form the KRAK
Art Group is to filter images from today’s Californian
life through their own artistic experiences and their cosmopolitan
sensitivity.
This November we are celebrating our Silver Anniversary under
the auspices of the Chopin & Friends Festival with an exhibition
at the “Kurier Plus Gallery” in New York City. We
will present “KRAK CONFESSIONS“, an exhibition of
our recent works, accompanied during the opening reception (as
is our practice) by a presentation of poems by our KRAK Poetry
Group. You are all invited!
