Kerry Linder was born and bred on the island of Curaçao
in the Netherlands Antilles. As a vocalist her musicality is
rooted in the rhythms and pulse of her Caribbean homeland. Raised
in a musical family, she started her own musical journey at
a young age, studying both ballet and classical piano as a child.
Her passion for music was matched by her love for languages;
in her youth she mastered English, Dutch, French, Spanish and
Papiamento, the Portuguese-based language of her compatriots.
She first heard Brazilian popular music while studying in the
USA in the 1970’s; she was enchanted by the rhythms and
the intricateharmonies, and also by the similarity
of the Portuguese lyrics to Papiamento. She has been hooked
on the sounds of Brazil ever since!

A New Yorker since the 1980s, Kerry
has studied voice with Shirley Meier and percussion with Mauro
Refosco. Joining creative forces with Luiz Simas and Marco Figueira
in 1998, she founded the vocal jazz ensemble ALUÁ, noted
for its lush vocal arrangements. In 2004 Kerry teamed up with
the gifted Brazilian guitarist Paulo André Tavares, the
masterful arranger of the numbers in her first release, Sail
Away with Me, on the Blue Toucan Music label. This CD,
for which Kerry penned the title cut, showcases the breadth
of her musicality and interpretive range, breathing new life
into jazz and bossa classics from masters such as Ary Barroso
and Billy Holliday, while giving new meaning to contemporary
sounds from artists such as Paul Simon.
Noted for her impassioned and soulful performances and a smooth
and crystalline vocal style, Kerry is a recipient of the 2004
Twirlie Nomination for Top Female Vocalists. She lives and performs
in NYC where she continues to compose, and is also the Director
of Studies at Language Studies International. |

Grzegorz Król has always been fascinated by the natural
surroundings of Szczebrzeszyn, Poland, where he was born in
1957 – by the woods of the Roztocze and the nearby meadows
and fields. Growing up next to the picturesque Wieprz River,
he observed its slow degradation during his childhood. This
river and its trees, together with the forests of the Szczebrzeszyn
neighborhood, serve him as the barometer of the slow but thorough
degradation of the environment. He decided to protest against
it, to protest with his paintings. He has been doing this
for 16 years now.
Król is a "self made man". His main tutor
is nature itself. He has introduced a new style of panting
that combines an individual technique with deep emotions and
symbolism, all of which adds to the uniqueness of Król's
paintings. They seem to be three dimensional. Some people say
that his art is full of genius. Contemporary modernists are
more likely to consider Król's painting somewhat traditional.
However, everyone who stops in front of his paintings wants
to have them at home in the most prominent place. Why is it
so, you might wonder? |
